Aminah Hughes is an Australian actress and singer based in Los Angeles.

She grew up treading the boards acting in the theater, before being scouted for the runway by Spiers Model Management at the age of thirteen. She has acted in music videos, short films and art installations, and appeared as a background actor in countless US and Australian productions (including The Leftovers, 9-1-1,  9-1-1 Lone Star, Mayans, Coercion, Platonic, American Born Chinese, All American, Dream and Sisters). She spent seven years as a Presenter on live radio and has worked as a voice-over artist in radio and advertising.

Aminah maintains a passion for live performance. She performed in the Sydney Opera House at the age of sixteen and has toured Europe and Australia, playing festivals, theatres, and art centres, performing as a solo artist and sharing stages and studios with such luminaries as Tommy Emmanuel, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Declan O’Rourke, KILA, Waterboys fiddler Steve Wickham, Nashville gospel singers, The McCrary Sisters and European folk-fusion outfit, No Crows.

She has been featured in US magazines, appeared on Irish TV, RTÉ and BBC Radio and performed with various orchestras both as a vocalist and flautist. Her debut album, Blue Wooden Boat, received airplay in Australia, UK and Ireland, and over 80 stations in 26 states across the US and Canada, charting on thirteen US core and college radio charts, from #30 to #6.

Aminah has recorded vocals on various productions, including Australia’s Who Do You Think You Are?, feature documentary, Dying to Live and highly anticipated game, Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock, based on the popular NBCUniversal Television Series.

“Trying to pin down what this singer can do with her voice is hard because she can do some amazing things. She can belt out a roof-raising blues tune just as readily as she can deliver a folk tune sweet enough to make you cry.”   – Nadia Mitsopoulos (ABC Radio)

Aminah has lived in the US, the UK, Ireland, Switzerland and Australia. She is proficient in a range of accents, including Standard American, Southern US, British, Irish, and Australian. She holds a Green Card, with full work rights.
