Fenians, Fremantle and Freedom Festival

Category: Festival, Performance

Tickets are now on sale for a beautiful Irish festival that will land on Fremantle’s shores in January!

The Fenians, Fremantle and Freedom Festival will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the arrival into Fremantle of the Hougoumont – Australia’s last convict ship, carrying 62 Irish freedom fighters. The festival will showcase the richness of Irish culture and its lasting impact on Australia.

Headlining acts include original Masters of Tradition, Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill as well as Declan O’Rourke and Grammy Award winning pedal steel guitarist, Lucky Oceans.

On 7th January I will be performing a very special gig at Kidogo Arthouse.

In an intimate performance in the beautiful cave-like space by the beach, I will be presenting songs I penned during my 7 years in Ireland as well as a collection of my most loved traditional Irish songs. I will be joined by some very special guests, including sublime guitarist Karl Hiller and award winning poet and storyteller Jaya Penelope.

Jaya is a descendant of Fenian, James Kearney, transported to Fremantle in 1867 on board the Hougoumont. Her storytelling has been featured at festivals throughout WA. Her tales of exile and belonging will transport you to a magical and mythical Ireland.

This will be a special evening to be remembered.
